  • Mr. Nolen has a long history as a runner, beginning in middle school and then earning three varsity letters as a member of the Central High School cross country team. In college, he trained under the guidance of Bobby Holcombe running personal bests of 4:48 (mile), 16:27 5k, 34:xx 10k, and 54:xx 15k. During this time he was competitive at the local level in Knoxville, TN, and raced for the Health Shoppe Racing Team. Since moving to Colorado in 2007 Mr. Nolen ran for the Fleet Feet Racing Team in Boulder, CO, and has trained independently which resulted in a 1:20:50 half marathon in Scotts Bluff, NE. Mr. Nolen gained coaching experience working with adult runners in Boulder and Denver, CO coaching for both FastForward Sports and Revolution Running. He continues to train independently and can be found along the Highline Canal trail pushing his boy in the running stroller or Nordic skiing in Grand County, CO.

Our assistant coach for XC is Mrs. MacFarland! Here are some encouraging words for new runners!

    Dear CCA Runners,

My running journey is not as elite as Mr. Nolen's. In fact, as a child, I was told by multiple doctors that strenuous exercise was dangerous to me as a severe asthmatic. I would be envious as I watched those who could run, even if it was a few laps in gym class. In 2008, I had a doctor who told me I could run, with the right kind of treatment and that is where my running journey began. I was beyond excited to start! I'm not a racer, I'm not a sprinter, I'm not a marathoner, but I'm one who loves to settle in at a steady pace and let my lungs tell me how long I can go. Each day is different; unpredictable at best, but I celebrate each and every run as a gift. I look at this assistant coach position as an opportunity to cheer you on, to encourage you when your body wants to give up, to share in the "big and small successes" and celebrate in your achievements. I've been there and I am excited to be there for you! I look forward to our running journey together!

We are so fortunate to have coaches that are able to coach on such a broad spectrum of experience and talent. Middle school is all about trying new things at school and any runner can find a home with our cross country team.

    Happy Trails!
